Honoring Professor Abdul Salam

Professor Dr. Abdul Salam respected his culture by wearing a turban, khussa, sherwani and Shalwar Kameez while receiving his Nobel Prize for Physics.

Today Pakistan has tried to honor him back by naming the National Center for Physics after him.

This is a good first step at the federal level. The GC University Lahore had already named its physics department after Professor Salam few years back.

Our leaders, policy planners, and well wishers need to learn that Pakistan loses, becomes weaker, whenever a citizen, renowned or less known, is discriminated against, because of her/his faith.

All Pakistanis deserve equal respect, opportunities and recognition.

This decision needs to be followed up by concrete steps aimed at reducing, and ultimately eliminating, the prevalent discriminatory attitude towards the Ahmadis.

We will have to learn to live peacefully despite of our differences. There's no other way.
